“Bouncing Back” Is Also Called Resiliency

Resiliency means being able to “bounce back” after something difficult happens. It’s like being a rubber band that stretches but then goes back to its original shape. When something bad happens, like a problem at school or a fight with a friend, you might feel sad or angry, but if develop resiliency you’ll be able to feel better and keep going without the stress taking over long term.

Being resilient doesn’t mean that you won’t ever feel upset or have problems, but it means that you have ways to cope with those feelings and solve problems. Some things that can help you be more resilient include:

      • Talking to someone you trust about what’s bothering you.

      • Taking care of yourself by getting enough sleep, eating healthy foods, and not talking down to yourself.
    •
      • Trying to see the positive side of things. This can be a little tricky when you’re feeling down but really dig deep if you have to because finding something positive changes the brain chemicals and gets you into a better place.
    •
      • Think about what you can control instead of what you can’t control. It’s not your job to fix other people.

      • Remember it’s okay to make mistakes. Don’t compare yourself to others. Just be you.

Building resiliency is something that you can work on just like learning a new skill. If you practice these things and keep trying, you’ll build resiliency and be more able to handle whatever comes your way.
